I think a versioning scheme with LTS points releases can be used for Blender as well, but it would require much more drastic changes to the source to support it. Blender was able to build a LTS version of Blender on first release. A lot has changed with Blender since 2.81 so it will require a lot of changes just to get Blender stable enough to release as a LTS version. I think that the Blender LTS versions will only be stable enough to release officially after 9 major point release versions.

I dont think Blender needs to follow these ways, just look at what other piece of software does. Adobe used to update every version number. But since version 9, Adobe just changed their versioning scheme to use 0.x.x.x and now continue on point versions. Microsoft is also doing this now in their Windows division. Instead of patching. I think this is a great approach, because people can tell which release is which, and know the current point in release as far as what it can give them. The people who do the work of developing Blender, are generally fairly good with lisences, and are quite happy to donate more of their time to Blender, if the program is structured in such a way that they can do so easily. Therefore, you might be surprised to know how many great features of Blender have been written and created by outside developers, completely outside of Blender.
