I recommend starting with a brushstroke for each main material part of a volume object (i.e. not so much on each bone, because you want the fill-in to appear much like those naturally-occurring areas of missing-density) and then later use surface shading and other effects to finish the painting.

The brush stroke process is incredibly fast: It renders 4 brushes with all the nodes that make up the brush rendered in either one pass, or sometimes in two passes, depending on your computer (a little though, so dont take an hour). From left to right (and top to bottom): 2×2, 10×5, 5×20, and 5×5.

Over the last year, some users have been asking about the implementation of Open3D modeling into Metashape. I mentioned the issue several times, and even did a blogpost about it a few months ago. Well, the topic made me realize that Ive been writing too much without a unified lens, so Ill summarize what Ive learned about Open3D and make a few recommendations (such as changing your workflow to match the benefits of Open3D).

As mentioned above, Metashape is a powerful photogrammetry software that allows you to create a 3D model from a single photo and can also be used to create 3D models of objects that have been found by the map. Set the depth, angle, resolution, brightness, white balance, and shading of the single photo, and Metashape will return a 3D model.

Metashape can also be used to create a 3D model of a terrain or building from a single photo. You can select a 3D model from the main menu, and then select single photo or make a selection from a list of photos, landscape or aerial photos.

Agisoft Metashape is a top-notch photo-editing tool for viewing digital 3D models and is very useful in the field of engineering, architecture, archeology, crime scene investigations, product manufacturing, and more. The software is beneficial for all users, especially for those working with 3D models of 3D terrain and buildings. However, a great advantage of this software is that it performs the most important operations, such as geo-referencing, model alignments, photorealistic textures, etc., automatically.

The combination of features such as the ability to generate models directly from the application, export models to.dxf,.stl,.3dm and.3dmf, add full support of the Official Open Source Library, update files in the application and export 2D photos automatically in.PDF format are just some of the additional features.

In addition to improvements in 3D modeling, Metashape Professional adds the ability to perform camera calibration and georeference. This allows for a much better camera response when using the metafile. The Georeference feature can also be used for photogrammetry.

Color Space conversion is a great new feature. It allows users to quickly and easily convert between the RGB, CMYK and LAB Color spaces, using the Color Look Up Table (CLUT). It is possible to work with different effects for each color space.

3D-Ink Registration allows seamless registration of 3D models based on previously created 2D photos of a specific object. This feature allows for fast and effective use of photos with minimal time and effort.

Radeon RX 5900 Series cards stable, but GPU performance still much worse than that of GeForce RTX cards. While our previous testing of the Radeon RX 6000 Series was largely successful, in this latest release, we ran into some issues with both the Radeon RX 5900 Series and the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. Additional features in 1.7.0 include: new CPU scaling (for those who need it), a new profiler, great improvements in image color control, and a major overhaul of the UI for YCbCr color space conversion.

While the Radeon RX 5900 Series of video cards doesn’t outperform the GeForce RTX 30 Series for individual applications like Metashape, the game changer that AMD now has is the addition of high-end video cards to the market at around $200. As such, it should come as no surprise that the Radeon RX 5900 Series cards are looking like they could be the best values on the GPU market right now. Specifically, the Radeon RX 5700 XT is looking like the best possible video card right now for a situation like this, as it outperforms the GeForce RTX 2060 for $150 or so, and has enough graphics power to allow you to run a lot of software without bottlenecking it. At the time of this article’s writing, the Radeon RX 5700 XT was priced at $239.99, with a release date of January 16th.

Set the recommended resolution for each image. A low-resolution image is less processor-intensive and can be used to define the coordinates of a large number of points. Be careful with over-saturation. If you choose this option, you need to have enough time to acquire images of higher quality.

Check that all images are in focus. Not every surface of an object is in focus. It is therefore important to check the focal length of your camera. Pointing and focusing the camera is a simple process. Press the button on your camera which locks the focal length and quickly move the lens to the desired position.

Use measurements and results to decide on camera settings. You should also check if your working area is dark. Work in a well-lit area with plenty of light and avoid direct light which can cause cast shadows on your work. Do not use lighting aids such as red or blue lights if possible. It is possible to correct them in post processing.

Check the accuracy of your images. Improve the results by proper point cloud generation which can be done manually or automatically. If you are manually generating the point cloud, you should check if your object and background are isolated and vertical and horizontal control points on the model are included. If the results are unsatisfactory, you will need to collect new data and correct your model.

Analyze your model. Use this analysis to see if your object is isolated or contains multiple objects. If the latter is the case, you can isolate them with the workflow tools, for example use the mosaic tool to isolate and combine objects. You can also combine them with models of similar objects that you have collected. See the documentation for more information.
